John Kean (1814–1895)

John Kean was the eldest son of Peter Philip James Kean and Sarah Sabina Morris, making him a grandson of John Kean of South Carolina and Susan Livingston of New Jersey. He served as a U.S. Representative from New Jersey (1883–1885) and became a leading New Jersey banker, president of the National State Bank of Elizabeth. He married Lucinetta 'Lucy' Halsted (1825–1912); their children included Senator John Kean (1852–1914) and Senator Hamilton Fish Kean (1862–1941), continuing a multi-generational political dynasty culminating in Governor Thomas Howard Kean of New Jersey.
