Biography
Peter Philip James Kean was the only son of John Kean (1756–1795), Revolutionary War prisoner and first Cashier of the Bank of the United States, and Susan Livingston (1759–1853), daughter of Peter Van Brugh Livingston. Raised at Liberty Hall in Union, New Jersey — his great-uncle Governor William Livingston's home — he married Sarah Sabina Morris (1788–1878), daughter of Continental Congressman Jacob Morris. Their children included U.S. Senator John Kean (1814–1895) and First Lady Julia Kean Fish (1816–1887).
