Biography
Herman Thong Livingston (June 24, 1856 – 1936). Born in New York City. Son of Herman Thong Livingston (1827–1899) and Susan Bard Rogers (1835–1911). Educated at private schools in New York City; graduated A.M. Yale University, Class of 1879. Vice-President of the Sinclair Oil Company and operator of oil properties in Virginia. Fourth generation of his family to own and occupy the Oak Hill mansion at Linlithgo overlooking the Hudson. Republican. Served as a presidential elector when Benjamin Harrison was defeated (1892). Married November 9, 1882 to Emmeline Cornell Hopkins (1859–1940). Three sons: Herman Thong Livingston Jr. (1883–1951, Williams College, insurance executive, m. Olga Theodora Kobbe; their daughter Alida Schuyler Livingston 1915–1940 was his only grandchild by this son), Henry Hopkins Livingston (1887–1960), and Edmund Pendleton Livingston (1889–1972, the Canadian-line progenitor). Buried at Linlithgo Reformed Church Cemetery.
