Biography
Elizabeth Stuyvesant was born 11 February 1775, the daughter of Petrus Stuyvesant (1727–1805) and his wife Margaret Livingston (1738–1818). Through her father she was a great-great-granddaughter of Peter Stuyvesant, the last Dutch director-general of New Netherland; through her mother she was a Livingston descendant, connecting the Fish political dynasty to the Hudson Valley patroons. She married Nicholas Fish in 1803. Their son Hamilton Fish (1808–1893) became Governor of New York, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State under Ulysses S. Grant.
