Biography
Edward Philip Livingston (1779–1843). Lieutenant Governor of New York 1830–1833 under Governor Enos T. Throop. Son of Philip Philip Livingston (1741–1787) and Sarah (Johnson) Livingston — grandson of Philip Livingston the Signer. Columbia College graduate, 1796. After his father-in-law Chancellor Robert R. Livingston's death, became master of Clermont Manor from 1802 until his death. Aide-de-camp to Governor Daniel D. Tompkins and private secretary to his father-in-law in Paris during the Louisiana Purchase negotiations. NY State Senator (Middle District 1808–1812; 3rd District 1823–1824). Lost his seat to Martin Van Buren. Presidential elector in 1820 for Monroe–Tompkins. Judge of the Columbia County Court of Common Pleas. Married his first cousin once removed Elizabeth Stevens Livingston (1780–1829), only surviving daughter of Chancellor Robert R. Livingston and Mary Stevens, thus inheriting Clermont Manor through her.
