Clermont Livingston (1817–1895)

1817–1895

Hudson Valley gentleman; first child named for the family's Clermont estate

Biography

Clermont Livingston was named directly for the family's principal seat — Clermont Manor on the Hudson — reflecting his father Edward Philip Livingston's intention to mark his status as Chancellor Robert R. Livingston's heir. He lived as a gentleman farmer in Columbia County, New York. He married Cornelia Livingston (a cousin) and was father to Katharine Livingston Timpson, among others.
