Biography
Father of Constance Hopkins and the family's second documented Mayflower passenger in this line (Constance being the first). Baptized 30 April 1581 at Upper Clatford, Hampshire, England, son of John and Elizabeth (Williams) Hopkins. Before the Mayflower he had already been shipwrecked on Bermuda en route to Jamestown (1609) and lived several years at Jamestown. By his first wife Mary (mother of Elizabeth, Constance, and Giles) and, after her death in England in 1613, by his second wife Elizabeth Fisher (married 1617/18, London). Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 with Constance, Giles, second wife Elizabeth, daughter Damaris, and two servants; signed the Mayflower Compact and served as an emissary to Massasoit and as Governor's Assistant 1633–1636. Died at Plymouth between 6 June and 17 July 1644. Direct ancestor through his daughter Constance Hopkins. (His parents John Hopkins and Elizabeth Williams of Hampshire are documented future targets.)
