Biography

Mortimer Livingston was a prominent New York merchant and shipowner, co-founder of the firm Livingston, Wells & Co., and part-owner of the Havre Line, one of the largest transatlantic packet fleets between New York and Le Havre during the 1840s-50s. He was an early financial backer of the American steamship industry.
