Biography
Lewis Howard Livingston was the twelfth child of Judge Maturin and Margaret (Lewis) Livingston. He was proprietor of Grasmere, a mansion in Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, New York, which had been built around 1775 and came into the Livingston family by inheritance. He was given the name Lewis after his uncle Lewis (who died in 1823) was replaced in the family roll.
