1600–1676

Arrived at Plymouth on the Anne (1623); original purchaser and founder of Nauset/Eastham; first town clerk of Eastham

Biography

Husband of Mayflower passenger Constance Hopkins and father of Elizabeth Snow. Born in England about 1599/1600 (a baptism 25 January 1599/1600 at St Leonard's, Shoreditch, London, is attributed to him, though his English origins are not firmly proven). Arrived at Plymouth aboard the ship Anne in the latter part of July 1623 and soon married Constance Hopkins (about 1627). The couple lived at Plymouth for roughly two decades, then helped found Nauset (incorporated as Eastham in 1651) around 1645. Nicholas held many town offices: first town clerk of Eastham (1646–1662), deputy to the General Court, selectman, and surveyor of highways. He and Constance had about 12 children. Died at Eastham 15/16 November 1676. Direct ancestor through his daughter Elizabeth Snow. (His parentage is uncertain and is not recorded here.)
