## Overview

Valentine Gill Hall Jr. (1834 to 1880) was an American socialite, banker, and merchant who lived at the estate 'Oak Terrace' at Tivoli-on-Hudson, New York. He is the maternal grandfather of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

## Livingston connection

In 1861 he married Mary Livingston Ludlow (1843 to 1919), daughter of Dr. Edward Hunter Ludlow and Elizabeth Livingston of the Clermont Livingston line. Their eldest child, Anna Rebecca Hall, married Elliott Roosevelt and became the mother of Eleanor Roosevelt.
