Biography
Serena Eliza Livingston (1795–1884). Daughter of John R. Livingston (1755–1851) and his second wife Eliza McEvers (d. 1810). Married Colonel George Croghan (1791–1849), hero of the defense of Fort Stephenson during the War of 1812 (where at age 21 he repulsed a British force ten times his size) and later Inspector General of the U.S. Army. Her marriage connected the Livingstons to the Croghan-Clark frontier aristocracy — George Croghan was the nephew of explorer William Clark (Lewis & Clark Expedition).
