Margaret Alida Rebecca Armstrong Astor (1800–1872)

Margaret Alida Rebecca Armstrong was the daughter of Senator John Armstrong Jr. and Alida Livingston. Her 1818 marriage to William Backhouse Astor Sr. — eldest son of John Jacob Astor, the richest man in America — merged the Livingston and Astor fortunes and made her children and grandchildren (including Titanic victim John Jacob Astor IV) heirs to a combined Dutch-Scottish Livingston and German-American Astor dynasty.
