Biography
Elizabeth Livingston was born 18 May 1773 in Quebec during her father Colonel James Livingston's Revolutionary War service. She married Peter Gerrit Smith (1768–1837), John Jacob Astor's fur-trade partner and upstate New York land baron, on 5 February 1792. She died 27 August 1818. Her son Gerrit Smith (1797–1874) became one of America's leading abolitionists, a U.S. Congressman, and a financier of John Brown and the Underground Railroad.
